6 Tips For Choosing The Right Hearing Aid
By Team Hearzap | June 26, 2024
Are you looking to buy a hearing aid for yourself or a loved one, and maybe you're unclear about how it would fit and function when it's placed in your ear? Hearing health must not be neglected, and when choosing the right hearing aid, there are a few important things to keep in mind in order to improve your hearing.
The process of choosing the right hearing aid is not as difficult as it may seem, so we’ve curated a list of six tips that will help your process of finding the right hearing aid easier.
Take a hearing test:
The first step to choosing the right hearing aid starts with taking a hearing test to check your levels of hearing loss. This test is very simple and can also be taken online. This is not the same as a hearing trial which involves an audiometry test and a couple more objective tests. Take this test from the comfort of your home.
Consult an Audiologist:
Consult an audiologist who’ll help you get a detailed picture of your hearing loss. This involves both subjective and objective tests. The subjective test is the Pure Tone Audiometry (PTA) exam and the objective tests are the Impedance test (which checks the overall condition of the middle ear), the Brainstem Evoked Response Audiometry(BERA) test, and the Otoacoustic Emissions(OAE) test. Always consult either an ENT doctor or an audiologist before you go ahead with a hearing aid.
Make time for regular ear checkups:
Remember to make some time for all the due procedures that are required while getting a hearing aid. You might have a really busy life, but it's important to make some time for getting consultations and trying out hearing aids. Schedule your appointments judiciously, go for all the required tests on time, and be patient while choosing your preferred hearing aid.
Choose the best hearing aids that suit your needs:
Whilst undergoing the trial period for your hearing aid, don't forget to choose the right style, form, and configuration that suit your needs aptly. Brands like Philips and Rexton provide various types of hearing aids. They come in various technologies, sizes, and shapes. Hearing aids also come in different color options for you to choose from.
Consider Dexterity:
The usage of both hands while handling the hearing aid is called dexterity. You must be able to operate the hearing aids, which are usually small, with great ease by using both hands. Some people may have bigger hands, while others may have smaller, some may have lesser coordination in the fingers, and some have more. Learn to get accustomed to handling your hearing aid properly with your hands.
